Day 5 - Tromsø and Dog Sledding

Tired after the nightly experiences with Northern Lights, we decided to drop off breakfast and get up a little later and have lunch already at 11:30 am. We made it in Finnsnes at 11:00 am and here sunrise at 11:16 and already sunset again at 12:37 am - a very beautiful sight - then we sailed into the polar night.
At 11 am a presentation on 'Survival in the Arctic - flora and fauna'. At 2:15 pm we arrived in Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic Ocean - today's long stop.

Dog Sledding Excursion
After a short bus ride of 30 minutes we were out in the open landscape where the adventure had to begin. In the past few days, some snow had fallen, it was almost windless and about 8 degrees frost - the best possible conditions for a dog sled ride. We got waterproof warm boots and a windproof suit and were quickly assigned a sledge driver with a 10-dog bucket - Alaskan Huskies.

Sunrise at 11:16 am
Sunset atl 12:37 am
Sunset behind the mountains
The dogs were all terrified to come out running - they barked and shouted, teased their tails and rolled in the snow and jumped around. We were no. 2 sled in the first group of about 15 sledges who drove off. In addition to the fields in the most beautiful landscape with glistening snow and a view of the sea towards Tromsø. The trip lasted about 45 minutes and afterwards we greeted the dogs and served coffee / tea and chocolate cake in a Sami lavvo (Tent). Bus back to the ship - and 10 min after arrival at 6:30 pm we continued out sailing northbound.
For dinner, we got celery soup, fried char (Arctic salmon) and more chocolate cake.
